"Menopause started at the age of 40 for me, and by the time I was 43, my periods had stopped. Due to my small frame, my mother's history of osteoporosis, and early menopause, my doctor decided to do a bone density test. I always ate healthy, exercised, and took daily vitamins. Sometimes however, things happen which one has no control over, as in my case. I thought my test would come back within normal range, but was very surprised when the doctor said I was osteopenic. I was immediately started on Actonel, along with OTC Calcium supplements. I kept up with my daily walking routine. One year later I was surprised to find my scores dropped even more on my bone test, very close to the osteoporosis range. I then was switched to Fosamax, and with determination taking over, I continued to walk daily and added weight training exercises. I faithfully took weekly Fosamax and added Vitamin D and began having more milk and yogurt. Within a 5 year period, I increased my bone density to the point that in December of this year, I may no longer need to be on Fosamax. I have become an advocate for taking care of your bones, because it really is never too late to save them. I have too much living to do, and will continue to fight the battle of osteoporosis."

"I loved the fashion era of the 60's! Bright colors, daring hemlines, fun designs of paisley, fishnet hose, go-go boots, Mary Jane shoes and Gunni Sax long dresses were in style. "I have a dime attached to a large safety pin that is more precious to me than diamonds. When we first got married, I opted for a stove, refrigerator and washer instead of a diamond ring. My husband promised me a diamond by the time we were married 10 years. By our 10th anniversary, we had a brand new house, two kids and a car payment. My husband presented me with a beautiful box with the dime attached to a safety pin. This was my "dime-on-pin". He did it as a sort of joke but I wouldn't trade it for the largest diamond in the world. He had remembered his promise and kept it with something he had made himself. We have been married 37 years now and I still wear it."

"When my hair is very short, I can go to the Ladies Room, take off my hat, wet my fingers and run them through my hair. It reactivates the gel and I can finger comb it. As my hair gets longer, this does not work as well. I then end up being 'married to the hat'."

Question: What do you do when you're having trouble falling asleep at night?
"When I can't sleep it's always because I have too much in my head. I know I should stop working before trying to sleep. When I don't, a little lavender essential oil drops on my pillow and behind my ears starts the dreamy process. If I wake up with my head buzzing with ideas, deadlines, projects, etc., then I visualize. Each thought in my head is released on a kite string as I sit on my favorite beach in Hawaii, watching the most beautiful sunset. As the sun sets, so do I. My thoughts that were keeping me up are safely attached to the kite, retrievable if I need them the next day."

"At the end of the winter season, when I take my jackets and coats to the dry cleaners, I typically find a missing glove in a pocket. I even found a $20 bill once. However, by then, I have gotten rid of the gloves' mate. I have to go out and buy a new pair of gloves at a winter end sale, literally using my $20 pocket money. One time I thought that I had lost a pair of gloves but found them months later in the glove compartment of my car. Now I know why they call it the glove compartment!"
